In 2025, thousands of Venezuelan migrants returned to their country due to increasingly harsh migration policies. This film accompanies two villages at the border between Panama and Colombia in their adaptations to return migration. The first village, once located along the northward migration route, saw its inhabitants invest heavily in motorbikes in 2021 to transport migrants from the piers to the entrance of the jungle. Today, this village finds itself in a state of diffuse waiting; migrants no longer attempt the crossing to Central and North America. Just 15 kilometers away lies another village, Puerto Obaldía, which is now situated on the official return route established by migration authorities. Venezuelan migrants disembark there daily, after having paid their “way back” (some report about 200 dollars) to migration officials. In both villages, people scan the horizon, waiting to see what might arrive by sea: sometimes migrants, sometimes humanitarian staff, sometimes nothing at all.
En 2025, miles de migrantes venezolanos regresaron a su país debido a políticas migratorias cada vez más estrictas. Esta película acompaña a dos pueblos en la frontera entre Panamá y Colombia en sus procesos de adaptación a la migración de retorno. El primer pueblo, ubicado antiguamente a lo largo de la ruta de migración hacia el norte, vio a sus habitantes invertir fuertemente en motocicletas en 2021 para transportar a los migrantes desde los muelles hasta la entrada de la selva. Hoy, este pueblo se encuentra en un estado de espera difusa; los migrantes ya no intentan la travesía hacia Centro y Norteamérica. A tan solo 15 kilómetros se encuentra otro pueblo, Puerto Obaldía, que ahora está situado en la ruta oficial de retorno establecida por las autoridades migratorias. Allí desembarcan migrantes venezolanos a diario, después de haber pagado su “pasaje de regreso” (algunos reportan alrededor de 200 dólares) a los funcionarios de migración. En ambos pueblos, la gente escanea el horizonte, esperando ver qué podría llegar por mar: a veces migrantes, a veces personal humanitario, a veces nada
